Macabi
Project description
The MACABI project, located in São Paulo’s historic Higienópolis neighborhood, blends classic and modern design with corporate and residential units. Designed by Salina e Freitas, its curved lines evoke local landmarks like the Higienópolis Shopping Mall. A key milestone was expanding Cyrela’s use of drywall beyond shafts, achieved through testing and collaboration with PARTS and Placo®, including high-performance boards like Performa, now applied in other projects. Sustainability was prioritized with the REUTILIZA program, special-sized boards to reduce waste, and onsite training for the workforce. MACABI sets a benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and modern construction practices.

Key Challenges
- Change of specification and introduction of drywall
One of the first challenges was convincing the construction company Cyrela to expand the use of drywall beyond the shafts, which had been its only application in previous projects. Recognizing MACABI as a prime opportunity for innovation, the Placo specification team was brought in to present modern, viable solutions.
Key Achievements
- Drywall as a solution
After months of testing and validation, Cyrela approved the use of the solutions proposed by PARTS and Placo, marking a significant shift in the company’s construction standards. This achievement allowed drywall to be included as a solution for other projects by the builder, solidifying its application in internal walls and ceilings. - Value added solutions
In addition to overcoming the high-level specification, we successfully introduced drywall as a key material, going beyond traditional plasterboard to incorporate high-performance boards, such as Performa.
Sustainability in the project
- Circularity: Working together with PLACO, custom-made materials were specified to reduce waste and optimize resources. Additionally, the REUTILIZA program was implemented on-site, ensuring the collection and reuse of transport pallets.
- Better for the installers: The training provided to employees and the planned material flow increased productivity, fostering a safer and more efficient work environment.
