Aranyi Building Material Store
Project description
Key aim of the project was to create something else compared to what people are used to in a common building material store.
The team of Aranyi decided to utilise an abandoned mill building to build an exclusive retail environment for building material commerce.
The concept was based upon two goals:
1) Home like atmosphere – the store must be designed to show the customers how their homes can look after utilising the available materials for renovation.
2) Cutting edge products – only the most innovative materials were used during the construction.
Their new showroom is a sight for the sore eye, utilising multiple Saint-Gobain solutions.

Biography: Aranyi Építőanyag is a family business in South-Eastern HU, which was started in 2003 with only 3 employees. In the beginning, the company operated from a small, rented office (with minimal storage), but in the last twenty years with four expansion steps the company has grown rapidly. In the early 90s, the parents of the current owners dreamed of building a modern family home using premium materials. They had realized the demand for high-quality, non-traditional building materials in Békéscsaba*, then took a leap of faith and opened a store. Starting in their garage as a warehouse and service area, the business quickly grew, and expanding premises became necessary due to increasing traffic. Today, Aranyi Építőanyag stands as a testament to their vision and perseverance.

Key Challenges
- The development has faced two critical challenges:
- Building on an operational site ⇒The building material store was operating on the project site during the development of the new retail area.
- Time constraints ⇒ Since it was partially financed by an EU fund, the completion deadline was strict.
- Sustainability and ecological footprint minimization was a key goal:
- Isover insulation utilized both on facade & pitched roof;
- Installation of solar panels, heat pumps & heat recovery ventillation;
- Front built from thermal insulation glass.
