Project description

Functions fulfilled by the building: International Airport, passenger pick-up/boarding, increasing the attractiveness of the Danube Delta area. The works were aimed at bringing the infrastructure up to the operational and security standards required by the European norms for flight operations, but also by the new regulations imposed on Romanian airports after the entry into the Schengen air space.
The work included design services, technical support and execution for modernization and expansion of the passenger terminal, modernization of the boarding-landing platform and the Alfa taxiway (built in 1973), building a platform dedicated to aircraft de-icing/anti-icing activities.

Key Challenges

Due to some modifications of the project, which introduced a closing wall in an area where a masonry wall could not be placed, we proposed a lightweight wall made of Aquaroc cement boards, on which ETICS Isover was applied. The thermal resistance was also adjusted by flattening the wall cavity with a minerall wool.
Negotiation with the Aeronautical Authority to obtain approval for the glass solution proposed for the facade under the conditions to obtain the same performance in terms of light transmission and thermal insulation, but with a much lower external reflection so as not to jam the guidance devices on the ground of aircrafts. Thus, we came up with customized solutions for each individual facade, thus obtaining a favorable opinion.

Waste Management: Materials were delivered to the site packed and stored on pallets that were recovered and reconditioned. Waste was managed according to the quality management implemented by the constructor
Commissioning: In order to maximize performance and reduce losses and / or execution defects, technical training was carried out for commissioning
