Piraeus tower - city's landmark
Project description
This architectural landmark is considered the starting point of the new Athenian Riviera and is located in the heart of one of Europe’s largest passenger ports. The Piraeus Tower has 22 floors and total 88m height and it is the first “Green” & Digital high-rise building in Greece. In 1968, a decree issued by the ‘Collonel’ Dictatorship, increased the maximum building height to 24 floors. Within this framework, the construction of the Piraeus Towerstarted in 1972, to house the Maritime Trade Center. The building’s skeleton was completed in 1974, but only the first 3 floors were utilized. For many decades remained unfinished and eventually abandoned – a “sleeping giant,” as locals called it.
